“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.” (Luke 1:38)
The angel explained to Mary that she would give birth to the Son of God, and his kingdom would last forever. She did not question her role in this matter, only asking how this baby would be conceived: “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.” (Luke 1:35)
Fully accepting this role, she exclaimed, “I am the Lord’s servant.” Her response and attitude are highly commended. Can we look upon God’s calling in our lives in the same way? Not begrudgingly, but with a willful and joyful attitude. Any time that we start to question our role in God’s plans, it’s a good idea to remember that we are, in fact, the Lord’s servant.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for giving us specific roles to fill as we serve you. Fill our hearts with joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
