“And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High;
 for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,
  to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins.” (Luke 1:76-77)

     Zechariah was also one who couldn’t help but praise God for Jesus’ impending birth, but he also praised God for the role his son (John the Baptist) would play in God’s salvation of his people.  While John’s specific role to “prepare the way,” is unique to him, we share in his ministry of announcing to people the “knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins.” Our role as a Christian can be similar to John’s role.  We can also point people to Jesus.  As our love for others continues, we can see their most important need.  People need the Lord.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to be aware of the needs of others, including their physical needs, but also their spiritual needs.  Thank you for giving us purpose, showing people the way to salvation and eternal life, giving them peace within.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
