“The word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness.  He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.” (Luke 3:2-3)

People came to John to be baptized and repent of their former way of life.  Repentance involves both submission and worship.  If we believe Jesus is king, we must submit our lives fully to his authority.  We must worship by turning away from sin (submission) and toward Jesus (worship) This is the key to our faith; turning away from our old way of life and establishing the new way.  This new way of life does not leave us empty-handed; instead, it fulfills us in ways beyond our imaginations and expectations.  It is not easy, but it is worth it, because we are blessed in this life and we also know that there is an eternity for us which will certainly not disappoint!

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for paving the way for us, so that we can experience life as it should be, turning away from sin and worshipping you.  As we continue our walk with you, we find that our lives are complete because of all that you have done for us.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
