“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” (Revelation 3:20)
Have you ever felt coerced into doing something you really don’t want to do? Granted, there are things which are necessary for our own good and the good of others. I didn’t want to start going to school as a child, but if I didn’t go, it wouldn’t be too cool if I never learned to read or write! But there are times when I’ve been asked to get involved in things where my heart wasn’t really into it, and I regret saying “yes” in the first place.
Jesus knocks on the door of our hearts. He does not come in unless we open the door. Free will has always been part of his ministry. As important as it is, it is always up to the individual to make a choice for Christ. God loves us, and he wants us to have a heart which is willing to follow him.
Prayer: Dear Lord, you leave it up to all of us to make the choice to invite you into our lives. Thank you for giving us that choice, and when we do choose to follow you, we can see how your wisdom directs us so that we can make good choices in our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
