Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?” Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” (Luke 12:13-15)
We will not find satisfaction in our possessions. Our life should not be defined by the things we own, but by who we are—our character, our faith, and the genuine love we have as followers of Jesus. Our possessions will not last, but our identity in Christ will last forever. That’s the most important thing we can leave behind, but it’s something we will also take with us.
Prayer: Dear Lord, give us your wisdom, teaching us all that is important, and storing up treasures in heaven. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
