“Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it.  People will tell you, ‘There he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not go running off after them.  For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other.  But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.” (Luke 17:22-25)

Jesus illustrates how just how quickly the “days of the Son of Man” will take place.  We know that everything we have is a gift from God, including our time, and Jesus gives a stark picture of how unexpected the end might be.

One question for you and me might be, “how are we handling our time right now?  Do we have an expectant attitude toward Jesus’ return, or are we apathetic or fearful?” The main thing is that here and now, we look at ways to live more like Jesus.  In doing so, we can have the confidence and peace within, knowing that whatever happens in our lifetime, we are abiding in Christ as he abides in us, and we will be in God’s care forever.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we seek you with all our hearts, asking you to direct our paths.  Thank you for being the one who cares for us and loves us deeply.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
