“What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied. Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” (Luke 18:41-42)
A blind beggar receives his sight; nothing short of a miracle, but there’s something very significant about this particular event. In vs. 38, the blind man cries out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Note the irony in this verse. The blind man recognized who Jesus was, the Son of David, more clearly than many people who were blessed with physical sight. The blind man’s cry for mercy demonstrated his belief that Jesus had the power to heal him.
Our recognition of Jesus for who he is plays out the most significant event in our lives. Our faith makes us whole; it carries us through everything, which includes the most joyous and most troublesome times. Our faith heals us spiritually, and while the physical body is still fragile, the spiritual body lasts forever.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the healing which you offer to everyone, providing peace within, a peace which surpasses anything the world has to offer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
