“Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him.” (Luke 12:35-36)
Jesus describes seeking the kingdom as always being “ready” and “waiting.” This is the attitude faithful followers of Jesus should have while expecting Jesus’ return. Are these words we can use in describing our Christian life?
From time-to-time I feel that I need to self-analyze, just to see where my head and heart is. Am I living today and tomorrow, ready and waiting for Jesus’ return, or am I so wrapped up in worldly desires that I would be ashamed of myself when he comes back? If I have some concerns, then it’s time to ask God to change my heart so that it will be in the right place. That’s when I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I believe and am confident that you are returning. Please help me to correct my way of thinking when I get off-track, so that I will always be ready. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
