“When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” (Luke 19:37-38)

     Jesus was in control of the events of the last week of His life, even though those events led to his death.  But this event was sort of a “high point” when the crowd gave him high honor as a king, even though their concept of a king may have been distorted. 

     I sometimes wonder what it would be like if the high honor Jesus had that day would have been permanently recognized by everyone, and the suffering he had to endure would not have occurred.  That would have been nice, but this was not in God’s plans.  There was no easy way out; the suffering, death, and resurrection had to occur for our sake.  God’s plans didn’t change because we will not change, that is, until we invite our Lord and Savior into our hearts.  When this occurs, we give Jesus the high honor, and we acknowledge that honor every day.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we honor you as our true king, the one who rules our lives within.  Thank you for being our Lord and Savior, making positive changes in our lives.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
