“As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes.” (Luke 19:41-42)

     Jesus wept for only the second time recorded in the Gospels.  He isn’t sad because of what’s about to happen to him; he’s sad about what’s about to happen to his Jewish brothers and sisters because of their unbelief.

     Perhaps you and I have grieved over someone’s sin, such as family members or friends who get caught up in the deceptions of the world.  It is right for us to pray for them.  If possible, we can point them in the right direction, being mindful that we do not carry the load of self-righteousness.  We can love them and welcome them into, or back into a life of faith, and we leave it in God’s hands.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we are saddened over those who have lost their way.  Help us to love them and to remind them of how much you love them, knowing that you welcome them into your kingdom.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
