“I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!  But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed!  Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.” (Luke 12:49-51)

A popular misconception is that Jesus was always peaceful, inoffensive, and comforting in his ministry.  But Jesus’ statement that he “came to bring fire on the earth” in vs. 49 stands in contrast to that misconception, forcing us to reconsider the entirety of Jesus’ ministry.

The point is that we ought to be putting God first.  Don’t compromise on the beliefs which have been instilled based on God’s teachings.  We can still love those who disagree with us, but it’s our mission to speak the truth, which sets us free.  The word of God is out there for all, and we can pray for those who still need to come to Christ.

Prayer: Dear Lord, give us your courage, strength, and wisdom as we face each day.  Help us to trust in you and to always remain faithful.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Blessings and have a great 4th of July,

Pastor Dave
