“At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, “Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you.” He replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.’” (Luke 13:31-32)

Some of the Pharisees mentioned in Luke were not as hostile toward Jesus as others.  Nonetheless, they issued this warning to Jesus regarding Herod.  Jesus took this warning at face value, because he had a ministry, and despite the risks, he would continue “today, tomorrow, and on the third day.” Jesus was figuratively speaking, since he was speaking of more than three remaining days in His ministry.  His ministry continues to this day with his followers.

And some risks continue to this day when people speak up for their faith.  Some areas of the world are more hostile than others, but the gospel of Jesus Christ continues.  Let us be “wise as serpents and harmless as doves.” (Matthew 10:16) God honors our commitment as we stand up for all that is right.

Prayer: Dear Lord, give all of us the courage to stand up for our faith.  We know that your message needs to continue, because everyone needs you as Lord and Savior.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
