“For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Luke 14:11)

Jesus teaches on humility using a common first-century image: gathering around a meal.  It can be a meal, or it can be a meeting or gathering of any kind.  The idea is to choose a place of less “honor,” or somewhere that is not necessarily the “VIP” section.  If we allow others to have a better seat, we are steering clear of putting any self-importance on display, showing others that they are important; important to their fellow citizens and to God.  Then we are exalted, because we have been considerate and courteous to others, not thinking only of ourselves.

Let everyone know they are important, regardless of social status, background, etc.  We are all precious in the eyes of God, and it can be very uplifting for people to know this.

Prayer: Dear Lord, while I know how much you love me, help me to remember the love you have for everyone, and to make it known to all.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
