“Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.” (Luke 10:3)

I wonder what the seventy-two people were thinking when Jesus said this.  “Thanks a lot, Lord,” or “what have we gotten ourselves into?!” Ultimately, the Lord was giving them fair warning and to be on their guard, knowing the ways of the world, how unsure and unsafe it is.

Obviously, it’s no different today.  There is much self-centeredness in our world; people out to get what they can, and they could care less about what happens to you and me.  But we have a higher calling.  We are called to serve because we love God and we love people.  We can take the higher road, knowing that we are doing the right thing in serving the Lord.  God honors our commitment when we serve him by serving others.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for keeping our hearts pure and our minds clear when it comes to serving you.  Keep us encouraged as we walk with you each day.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
