“Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.” (Luke 9:16-17)
The 5000 people Jesus was attending to were hungry. Somehow, the two fish and five loaves of bread were multiplied and were more than enough to feed them with a lot of leftovers! I can find no explanation for how this happened, except that it was a miracle.
God is asking us to step out in faith and to pray for a miracle, and miracles do happen, with no other legitimate explanation. The fact is that we have little control over our lives, and we need a God who will supply our needs. Thanks be to God, who meets those needs through our faith in Jesus Christ our Lord!
Prayer: Dear Lord, we acknowledge you as the one who is in charge. We are quite limited regarding what we can do but thank you for coming through for us in our time of need. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
