“Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.” (Colossians 3:12)
Compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience do not automatically become our characteristics when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior. We have a responsibility to adopt these qualities, but we cannot do this on our own. As we surrender to the control of God’s Spirit, He changes us so that we become more like Jesus.
Years ago during a performance review at the place I was working, I was told that I was a little “rough around the edges.” I didn’t disagree with him. But the Lord has been working on me, and hopefully, I am much more approachable; easy to talk to. And now, even if I encounter someone who is abrasive, I try to use a gentle approach, not retaliating and practicing patience. It just works out much better that way.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for moving me closer to the person I was meant to be. I ask that your Spirit continues to rule at all times, especially during the times when I am tested. I trust in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
