“Blessed is anyone who endures temptation. Such a one has stood the test and will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” (James 1:12)
We are tested in our faith, and temptation is one way we are tested. To deal with it and have victory over temptation will help to make us stronger in the faith, but the path to victory is not always easy.
The enemy would like us to yield to temptation and just give up. Traps are set for us in order to be tempted, based on areas of our life where we are vulnerable to less than virtuous desires. Attempts were made to trap Jesus numerous times, but the Son of God was quick to avoid or overcome those traps. Knowing the word of God helps us tremendously. Claiming it, holding it within our hearts, and praying about it helps even more. It takes effort on our part combined with the help and grace of God, but with God, all things are possible.
Prayer: Dear Lord, you know the ways that I struggle with temptation, and you supply ways to overcome it. Forgive me for the times when I have yielded to it—I should know better, but I thank you for giving me the knowledge and wisdom to deal with it and to have victory, all because of you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
