“When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.” (Luke 5:4-6)

Jesus asked Simon to do something that was counterintuitive to his experience as a fisherman, to go back out and let down the nets for a catch after failing to catch anything throughout the night.  Simon was ready to pack it up and go home for the day, but out of respect for Jesus, he went out again and to his surprise, caught an overwhelming amount of fish.

Has God ever asked you to do something that didn’t quite make sense at the time, or seemed too hard to handle?  This request may come through other people you trust, yet you feel that you’re not quite ready to take this on.  But out of respect for a trusted individual, you go ahead and do it anyway.  What were the results?

We can make some tremendous strides in our life through our trust in God.  Of course we have to make sure it is God speaking to us in some way, and not someone or something that is way out their in left field!  Let’s be open to the things God is calling us to do; it could open up a whole new world for us.

Prayer: Dear Lord, enable me to trust in you for everything.  You will not mislead or deceive me, but instead you are looking out for me in ways that I may not have yet imagined.  Thank you for your continual guidance.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
