In Luke 3, we read about Jesus right after he was baptized, “a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved: with you I am well pleased.” (Luke 3:22) Due recognition was given to the Son of God.
Yet, in chapter 4, the devil is out to tempt Jesus in the wilderness. Jesus had been fasting and knowing he was hungry, the devil says, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become a loaf of bread.” (Luke 4:3) The devil was attempting to sow some seeds of doubt in Jesus, but there was no way that would happen. Just before this, the voice from heaven affirmed “You are my son.” There was no “if” regarding the status of our Lord. Jesus was fully acknowledged as the Son of God.
This is one tool that the enemy will use against us—to sow some seeds of doubt, but you and I—we know better. We know of a living and active God in our lives, and his love for us never ends.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for showing us ways to deal with the enemy when we are tempted. Help us to hold those teachings in our hearts, because we know that it will help us in our daily walk with you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
