“Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’” (Luke 4:4)

Jesus responds to the devil’s temptation, suggesting that the stone could be turned into bread.  He quoted scripture from Deuteronomy 8:3. This scripture reminds us that we should not prioritize the gifts of God over God himself.  Think about the things we are gifted with.  We may feel that we have much and we can be very thankful for all that we have, whether it is material possessions or individual talents, but we should place God and his word first above everything else. When we give God first priority, we realize and appreciate even more the one who gives us life, and life eternal.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I confess that sometimes I do not give you first priority.  Forgive me for thinking that way and help me to be ever mindful of your divine, faithful, and loving presence.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
