“You see and hear how this fellow Paul has convinced and led astray large numbers of people here in Ephesus and in practically the whole province of Asia. He says that gods made by human hands are no gods at all.” (Acts 19:26)

The ancient Greek city of Ephesus was in an uproar and a state of confusion.  A silversmith named Demetrius, who made and sold silver shrines of an idol, Artemis of the Ephesians, felt that his business was threatened by Paul’s messages, and the interest in selling these articles of idol worship would fade.  But despite the objections of Demetrius and those who worshipped this idol, they could not find a way to press charges against Paul.

This is just one example of how the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ reveals itself.  No other so-called gods or idol worship can match the saving power of Jesus.  “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Prayer: Dear Lord, you are the one who clears up our confusion and gives us peace within.  I pray for those who are confused and feeling a sense of emptiness, that they may be led to believe in you and the truth you bring to their lives.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
