A man who was lame from birth confronted Peter and John in the temple.  He asked for money, but Peter offered him something better:

“Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.  He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.” (Acts 3:6-8)

     This man’s physical and spiritual needs were met through the saving power of Jesus.  We can offer physical help to people, which we should, and at the same time, offer permanent, eternal hope.  Our hope is in the resurrected Christ.  The world only offers temporary hope, at best.  The hope we have from the world is offset by the evil tragedies which do not cease to exist.  September 11, 2001, is an example, and there are many more.

     We can have what the world cannot take away and offer it to others.  We can’t ignore all that is taking place in the world, but when we have Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we will be at peace by his presence in our lives.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we pray for those among us who are seeking a genuine hope.  We pray that they realize you are the answer.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
