The book of Acts records numerous events of opposition to the Christian faith.  Peter and John were adamant regarding the sharing of the Gospel, and the governing authorities in Jerusalem ordered them to stop, “But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.” (Acts 4:17)

     This did not stop them, because Peter and John were strong in their convictions, and they knew that the Gospel was meant to be spread, “Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.  But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges!  As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:18-20)

     Opposition to our faith, including persecution, continues to this day.  It’s not as prevalent in our land where we still have some freedom, but it is important for the Gospel of Jesus Christ to continue.  Let’s pray for those who face persecution and for our own courage in standing up for our faith.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we know the impact you have made on our lives, and we know how important it is for others to follow you.  We pray for everyone, near and far, who face persecution because of our faith.  Guide them and protect them and embolden all of us to share our faith.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
