“Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.” (Acts 2:41)

     Peter preached a powerful message that day.  As we are told, many responded to it, yet some rejected it or were at least not ready to receive it.  Nevertheless, three thousand is an impressive number!

     Wouldn’t it be great if each of our churches could just reach a fraction of that number?  We could use the excuse that Christianity was still fairly new, which gave many the chance to hear and respond to the message for the first time.  We could also use the excuse that our world today is different and there are too many competing interests, and the church is at or near the bottom of the list.

     Let’s not accept the status quo.  People need the Lord.  Extend an invitation to those who are in need.  “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)

Prayer: Dear Lord, we know how good it is to have the peace within that only comes from you.  With that knowledge, give us confidence and compassion to reach out to a world in need.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
