“While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” (Luke 22:47-48)

     Whenever I think of betrayal, Judas is the first person I think of.  In this instance, not only did Jesus remind Judas of what he had done, he also noted the irony of being betrayed with a kiss.  But this shows how deceptive the works of darkness can be, having a good outward appearance and at the same time, evil intentions underneath it all. 

     Betrayal is the breaking of trust.  As followers of Christ, we represent the opposite of this.  We can be forthright in our belief in the Lord and maintain trustworthiness at all times, in every situation.  While deception seems to be on the rise in today’s world, we can counter that with a clear-cut message—the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we pray that we will always be wise to the ways of the world.  We know we can trust you, and grant that we can always possess that trustworthiness.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
