“While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” (Luke 24:36)

     After the resurrection, the first thing Jesus says when he appears to his disciples is “Peace be with you.” Jesus’ followers needed peace.  He could have chosen any other way to greet his disciples, but he chose to encourage them with peace. 

     This was not the only time Jesus granted them peace.  As the time was quickly approaching before he would face the cross, he comforted his disciples, saying, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)

     Jesus wants us to have peace within at all times.  Sometimes when troubles mount and life feels very burdensome, having peace within is easier said than done, but our Savior comes along and says, “Peace be with you.” This is a reminder that all of us need.

Prayer: Dear Lord, you are the one who grants us true peace.  Thank you for reminding us of this and restoring us with your calming Spirit.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
