“They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.  He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?  Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” (Luke 24:37-39)

     Doubts, disbelief, and fear were among the feelings of the disciples, even as they could clearly see Jesus before them.  Jesus did everything he could to show that what they were seeing was real; that he had risen.  He even said, “Do you have anything here to eat?”  They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in their presence.” (Luke 24:41-43)

     These days we are bombarded with scam artists all over the place, and it is good when we seek to verify the truth.  I can’t say that I haven’t thought the same whenever God is trying to say something to me, but you and I know that we really ought to trust God.  As time goes on, I get more verification, and then I have to ask myself, “why didn’t I believe it in the first place?”

     Thankfully, we have a patient God who sees past our doubts about him and his promises.  He’s looking out for us all of the time!

Prayer: Dear Lord, you not only give us a peace within, but you also give us the satisfaction of knowing how much you love us.  Help us to erase our doubts and fears and to live courageously for you.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
