“But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.” Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.” (Luke 22:32-34)

     Peter was as committed, if not more, than any of the other disciples.  He came right out and said it, but Jesus also knew of his weakness, which would soon be on full display when he denied Christ three times. 

     It is noteworthy when Jesus said, “when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” (vs. 32) Jesus knew that despite his denials, Peter would regroup and be much stronger in the faith, boldly claiming the name of Jesus. 

     In our dark moments, God encourages us and helps us to get back on our feet.  We can use our good and bad experiences to strengthen our spiritual life, learning from our mistakes and drawing even closer to God.  It’s all part of the plan.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for all of times you have forgiven my sins, and helping me to rely on you even more as I claim your name.  Amen.
