“A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)

We want to take responsibility and make plans which we hope will come to fruition.  Sometimes those plans are well-thought out, other times they are hastily put together, and perhaps there are even times when selfish ambition clouds our thinking.  When we commit ourselves to the Lord, we must also know that even when our intentions are good, God has other plans in mind for us.  I could probably come up with at least a half dozen stories of my own of when I made plans, thinking that those plans would happen and they would work out okay, but the Lord had something better in store for me.

We need to be humble before God and trust him.  We can put some plans together; in fact, scripture tells us that it is good when we make plans, but let’s not forget one important step—to bring those plans before the Lord, because when we rely on his most valuable wisdom and insight, we will be led to make the right choice.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to trust you with my plans and my future.  Direct my steps according to your will, not my own.  Give me peace and understanding when you redirect my path.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
