“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” (Colossians 3:23-24)
We are, in fact, working for the Lord, serving him in all we do. If others notice it, that is fine, but that is not the ultimate goal. The goal is to find joy in the tasks we take on, everything from the mundane to the highly prestigious. We can even find joy in completing tasks when no one is around to see it!
To be clear, we are not “earning” points with God when we do our good works; we are simply giving glory to God because of the abilities he has gifted us with. We are here for a reason, and each one of us can discover that reason and thrive on it. Take joy in all that is good. The goodness we have in living for Jesus is not hard to find.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I look forward to each day because you have filled my heart with joy. Today, I am sure that I will face challenges, but you will help me meet those challenges and will help me to recognize the goodness in all that you have created. Thank you for helping me to give love for you and love for others the highest priority. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
