“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25)

     Jesus is telling us that it is wise when we build our life on the word of God, not only hearing what it says but by doing it.  The foundation of our faith is built upon being open to what is being taught and sincerely looking for ways to apply it to our lives. 

     Think about how things might be if we didn’t have the word of God to guide us.  We would be like a ship lost at sea, tossed about by the waves in a storm, with no good sense of direction.  It would take a miracle for a ship like that to survive.  But with the word of God, we are given a clear direction based upon the wisdom of our Lord.  He will not steer us in the wrong direction, and he will give us all we need to persevere, even through the roughest storms of life.  We have a God who cares for us very much!

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for helping us to build our lives upon your teachings.  Our strength, endurance, and all that we have comes from you.  Our joy is complete because of you.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
