“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” (Ephesians 6:13)

We need God’s help, and there is no need to be ashamed to admit this.  It does not matter what our level of self-confidence is, or whether or not we have been successful in our past and present endeavors.  We were meant to be in a relationship with God and to rely on him for coping with the difficulties we face.

As David was about to face this huge Philistine warrior Goliath, he was offered some armor for protection.  He tried it on, but he decided that it was of no use; it was in the way.  David was not ignoring the need to be protected, but he had much more confidence in God when he faced Goliath and said, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” (1 Samuel 17:45) David knew that he had the armor of God to protect him.

Let’s consider where we stand in our level of confidence in God.  It is wise to take precautions and avoid unnecessary risks, but we have our Lord, and he can help us to stand firmly in our faith each day.

Prayer: Dear Lord, you have shown your faithfulness to me numerous times in the past, so I have no reason to doubt you now or in the future.  But I am weak and vulnerable, so help me to always look to you for patience, strength, and endurance.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
