“O God, you are my God; I seek you; my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. (Psalm 63:1)
We know that water is essential for life. We cannot go very long without it, but how about the living water of Christ? David spoke of it in this verse from Psalms, and he realized the importance of it. Jesus was referring to this living water in John 4:11, which prompted the Samaritan woman to ask, “Where do you get that living water?” Jesus responds to her by saying, “those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.” (John 4:14)
It is true that our soul thirsts for this living water. Let’s drink of this water, which fulfills our longings more than anything else. We can get along without it for a while, but how much better it is when we realize and accept God’s love for us.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for this living water, which satisfies my deepest longings. I seek your forgiveness when I stray and seek after other things, because I know that my joy is complete when I put my full trust and faith in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
