“To the leader. A Psalm of David the servant of the Lord, who addressed the words of this song to the Lord on the day when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said:
I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:1-2)
David faced much adversity, having many enemies who sought to end his life, and this included King Saul, who was possessed with an evil spirit. It was enough to instill fear in anyone, but David knew that the Lord was with him, and he could seek guidance and protection. He was confident in the saving grace and power of the Lord.
When we stay close to God, our troubles may still exist, but it is good to know that our refuge, shield, salvation, and stronghold is here to fight our battles for us.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for being the one I can turn to for all of my needs. Regardless of whether my needs are large or small, I know that you are always there to help. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
