“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23)
How do we know we have the Holy Spirit of God within? By looking within, asking ourselves if we possess these traits which Paul so clearly points out.
Several years ago, I printed out a very large print copy of this scripture and put it on the bulletin board in my office. It’s right there so that when I look at it, I am reminded of what these traits are, and whether or not I have them. Do I feel as though I possess these traits all of the time? Not really. The cares of this world can have such a negative effect, and sometimes it’s overwhelming. But we can have renewal through the Holy Spirit, moving us back towards God and his will for our lives. We can strive to be more like Jesus, because he set the perfect example.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I do not always “feel” as though I have your perfect peace within, but your Spirit helps me to stay grounded in the faith, knowing that you are always with me. Thank you for your love and patience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
