“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:

These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation.  I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!” (Revelation 3:14-15)

The church in Laodicea has a lukewarm commitment to Jesus.  He does not commend Laodicea at all but sternly rebukes them for being spiritually complacent, satisfied with their wealth and material comfort but blind to their true state before God. Still, Jesus makes clear that his rebuke is given in love:

“Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.  Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” (Revelation 3:19-20)

If anyone will open the door by submitting to his will, he will come in . . . and eat—that is, he will have intimate fellowship with believers who respond to his invitation.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we know that you are the true God whom all should worship.  We pray for those who have not accepted your invitation, so that they will open the door and have fellowship with you.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
