“These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here, and Jason has welcomed them into his house. They are all defying Caesar’s decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus.” (Acts 17:6-7)
Some Jews were strongly opposed to the apostle’s preachings. They did not understand what Jesus stood for, and what kind of a king he was (and is). In an attempt to make them understand, they tried to find common ground. Paul “reasoned in the synagogue with both Jews and God-fearing Greeks, as well as in the marketplace day by day with those who happened to be there.” (Acts 17:17)
We can find common ground with others, and Lord willing, some will understand that we all face many of the same challenges day by day. Inviting Jesus into our lives is the answer to helping us cope with our troubles, and we can have the assurance that God is with us, now and forever.
Prayer: Dear Lord, give us a compassionate heart. You have done much for us, and now we choose to return the favor by sharing the joy that you give us with those who are in need. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
