“Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” (Acts 6:3-4)

     A growing need among the apostles was to have enough people to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the ministry.  Both were important, but in order to meet the spiritual needs, choices had to be made in order for seven among them to focus on the Spirit. 

     There will always be physical needs.  Jesus said, “You will always have the poor among you.” (John 12:8) Jesus also said, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Matthew 9:37-38) In today’s world, we will always need people to meet physical and spiritual needs.  Ask the Lord for discernment when deciding how you and I can fit into his plans.

Prayer: Dear Lord, it is truly an honor to serve you.  We face a world that is very much in need.  Based on how each of us are gifted, help us to decide how each of us can meet those needs.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
