“Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk from the city.  When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.  They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.” (Acts 1:12-14)

     It was truly a display of Christian unity, with all of the 11 disciples, the women, and members of Jesus’ family.  It was good for them to be there, to support each other, and to join in prayer, because much prayer was needed.  Without the physical presence of Jesus, things were a bit different; they were navigating some unchartered territory.  But joining together in unified prayer was needed the most, because they had important decisions to make and they needed courage to face the future. 

     Let’s be sure to do as the early disciples did.  Our lives are very uncertain, but when we gather together in prayer and worship, you can be sure that our Lord is responding to our needs.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we look to you for guidance, individually and as the body of Christ.  We pray that we will remain close together in all the days to come.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
