“Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.” (Luke 12:1-3)
Jesus taught that nothing is hidden from God. He condemned the Pharisees for their “hypocrisy,” likely for having secret motives or actions that contradicted their public persona, based on Jesus’s warning that all secrets will be exposed.
Sometimes we are prone to act one way privately and another way publicly. I share some things with my family that I don’t share with other people; that’s a fact! I share some “inside jokes” with my brother, and most people have no idea what we’re talking about! But the key issue is, are we being hypocritical in our words and actions? Are we the same person around other Christians as we are in the home, the workplace, or anywhere we go? It is best when we honor God at all times. When we do this, it will help set us straight on who we should be to all people—children of God, striving, learning, caring, and loving.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I know that nothing is hidden from you. Help me to be more like you with everyone at all times. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
