“When the apostles returned, they reported to Jesus what they had done. Then he took them with him and they withdrew by themselves to a town called Bethsaida, but the crowds learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing.” (Luke 9:10-11)

The people of Bethsaida were excited when they heard that Jesus was coming, so they hurried to find him and listened to his teachings.  This was a crowd of over 5000 people.  They were so infatuated with his teaching about the kingdom of God that they seemingly went all day without eating.  Being with Jesus mattered more to them.

You could say that this crowd of people set an example for us.  They were highly enthused with their faith.  Think about the times when you have been excited about your faith.  Has it been consistent, or has it been intermittent?  What can help you to regain some of that fervor for God when you feel like you’ve lost it?

Here’s a few ideas: it can just be when you’ve taken personal time to pour your heart out to God and have been comforted with his presence.  It could be when you’ve celebrated special events with family or friends, or it could even be when, although things aren’t going your way, you know that the Lord is looking out for you.  Just remember what he said in Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Prayer: Dear Lord, I want to take time to celebrate your holiness every day.  Keep me mindful of the love you have for all of us and that everything good comes from you.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
