“But say the word, and my servant will be healed.” (Luke 7:7)

In Luke 7, Jesus heals the servant of a Roman military official-a centurion-who demonstrates humility in asking Jesus to heal his servant.  The centurion sent his friends ahead to say, “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, since I am not worthy to have you come under my roof.  That is why I didn’t even consider myself worthy to come to you.  But say the word, and my servant will be healed” (vs. 6-7) Jesus was “amazed” at the centurion’s faith (vs. 9).  This Roman official showed humility by recognizing who he was in comparison to Jesus, and he was confident that Jesus could heal even from afar.

Do we feel as close to or far from the faith displayed by this centurion?  We should be able to call out to God in all of our times of need.  When dealing with so many of our problems, it is hard to go it alone, so why not ease the burden by asking God for help?  Truly, this is how it was meant to be.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I know of your awesome power and tender care.  Help me to always be aware of this as I ask for your help with my problems.  I give you all of the praise and thanks.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
