“Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?” Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.” “You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.” (Luke 7:41-43)
Jesus responds to criticism when he forgives a sinful woman, who showed much remorse for her sins. His response to criticism is in the form of a parable which tells us how much someone can be aware of the magnitude of their sins, yet they realize the love and forgiveness our Lord offers.
Jesus tells us in Luke 5:32, “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” If someone feels that they are “good enough,” it is sometimes hard to reach them. We must come to the realization that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
Prayer: Dear Lord, we recognize the depth and breadth of your love and forgiveness, and we are truly thankful. Open the eyes of all people who are still in need of a Savior. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
