“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord.” (Isaiah 55:8)

The plans we make do not always come together in the way we thought they would.  Even if our intentions are good, the Lord has the final say regarding how things turn out.  In 1 Samuel 16, the prophet Samuel was tasked with finding a king to rule over Israel.  Jesse had seven sons who might have been good candidates to assume this role, but with the Lord’s guidance, each one of them was turned down.  “For the Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7) Instead, they had David, the youngest, come in from the field where he was tending the sheep, and he was the one who would end up being chosen as king.

It is good to know that we have a God who can be right there in our decision-making.  We can consult him in our prayers, looking for his divine wisdom to help us.  Let’s look to God as our source for everything:

Prayer: Dear Lord, you know there are times when I have a decision to make, and I really don’t know what to do.  I am glad that I can come to you and look for your guidance.  I am confident and thankful that you will lead me in making the right choice.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
